Robert Gordon’s College is seeking a qualified and experienced instructor to provide instrumental tuition for upper strings to a range of pupils across the Junior and Senior Schools. The successful candidate will be expected to teach pupils from Primary 3/4 upwards both individually and in pairs(depending on age and ability). The post requires a high degree of enthusiasm to encourage pupils to prepare for music exams (ABRSM and Trinity College) and participate in college ensembles and events.
This is a Visiting Music Instructor role, available immediately. Visiting Music Instructors are independent providers of music tuition and engage directly with the parents of College pupils to provide lessons on College premises. Job requirements are as follows:
General
1. To provide high quality instrumental lessons in both Junior and Senior Schools
2. To advise and guide pupils on all aspects of their instrumental education
3. To assist in developing the music curriculum as it relates to instrumental music
4. To contribute to and support activities of the Music Department during and after school hours
5. To undertake in-service training, review and professional development
6. To encourage pupils to attend lessons regularly and to participate in ensembles or groups, including on a co-curricular basis
Planning and Assessment
7. To prepare lessons and courses in instrumental music
8. To assess, record and report on the progress and achievements of instrumental pupils
9. To assist in preparing instrumental pupils for SQA examinations
10. To prepare pupils for external exams up to Diploma level as appropriate
Teaching and Learning
11. To teach agreed groups and individuals effectively
12. To help organise and participate in school ensembles, groups and/or musical activities as appropriate
Organisation and Administration
13. To implement all procedures and practices of the music department
14. To participate in the administration and organisation of the music department with regard to own area of responsibility
15. To work co-operatively as part of a team
16. To ensure that College instruments are maintained in good condition
Interact with Colleagues and Pupils
17. To maintain good order and discipline among pupils
18. To safeguard health and safety
19. To communicate effectively with colleagues, parents and pupils
