Overview
Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust is looking for a motivated Diabetes Highly Specialist Podiatrist to join the Podiatry Department as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Foot Service (MDFS). You will work with the Principal Podiatrist, Diabetes and Vascular Consultants and the wider Diabetes Foot Service Team.
You will have the opportunity to develop highly complex podiatry skills with ongoing training, mentorship, and opportunities for personal development. The Podiatry Service sits within Therapy Services, offering peer support and leadership development alongside other senior AHPs across the service and the Trust.
You will have a proven record of excellence in Diabetes Podiatry and the ability to function as a sole Podiatry Practitioner. The role involves managing a high-risk caseload in both in-patient and out-patient settings, teaching and undertaking research work. You will work closely with the Community Podiatry Team to provide a seamless service to the population served by our department.
Our staff are supported with appraisal and dedicated CPD time.
We are looking for a Podiatrist who can integrate and deliver education into the multidisciplinary team, function within a supportive peer group, and work autonomously with strong professional character.
The Highly Specialist Podiatrist is part of the Diabetes Multi-Disciplinary Foot Service (MDFS) at Darent Valley Hospital and acts as an expert training resource to other health and social care professionals in the management of the foot in diabetes.
Responsibilities
* Provide educational opportunities to Health Care Professionals to recognise and manage patients at increased risk of developing new foot disease and ensure timely referral to a foot protection team or MDFS as appropriate.
* Empower patients and carers to achieve maximum independence through self-care and effective management of foot problems.
* Support the Principal Podiatrist and help ensure the Diabetes Foot Service meets required expectations in line with national and local policies.
* Deliver a high standard of podiatry care to patients presenting with acute complex complications of the diabetic foot, using holistic assessment, diagnosis and treatment.
* Apply research and evidence-based wound care, including wound debridement and advanced wound care therapies, with aims to reduce the need for surgical intervention.
Team and Service Context
The Diabetes Foot Service works within the Trust’s Therapy Services, with opportunities for peer support and leadership development across the service.
