For over 60 years, East 15 has produced actors, directors, producers, theatre practitioners and technicians for the international stage, TV, film and radio. In 2000, East 15 merged with the, marking an exciting new chapter in the history of both institutions and providing students with more opportunities, including our specialist courses.
East 15 offers an extraordinary, dynamic and unique portfolio of, and courses that span many areas of training for actors, directors, producers, technical theatre specialists and students of theatre practice. A member of the Federation of Drama Schools, it is one of a leading group of UK conservatoires and is now one of the largest specialist drama schools in the UK, with a distinguished international teaching staff and an undergraduate and extensive postgraduate population of over 800 students.
Duties of the Role
We are looking for a technical expert in theatre construction to support the school's visual and technical output.
The role is responsible for supervising and delivering build, construction and realisation across a dynamic range of productions, including established texts, devised work, student-led festivals, Christmas shows, and other ancillary projects within the department.
The role will be expected to act as a technical lead in the department, supporting the broader department output and helping to supplement the skills existing within the department.
The role will be expected to work across a range of venues, mentoring students within specialisms, and will help to support learning across East 15’s technical teaching provision.
This full-time role will be based in Loughton (Central Line) and will require travel to other venues/locations as required for project delivery.
There may be occasional (infrequent) support required for the Colchester Campus on an ad hoc basis.
Skills and qualifications required
Experience of professional theatre working environments is essential, and previous work within an educational setting is desirable.
The candidate will have relevant professional links and strong organisational skills, as well as technical knowledge to support the maintenance and upkeep of equipment. The right candidate should have a hands-on ability and experience in differing construction media and techniques, demonstrating outstanding integration of workshop and construction health and safety considerations in their working methods.
