Nursing Support Worker

Opportunities exist in Cardiff and Vale UHB to join our in‑patient areas at University Hospital of Wales and Llandough. Shifts include days, nights and bank holidays. There are no night‑only contracts available.
As part of the MDT, you will deliver high quality care to patients under the guidance and supervision of a registered healthcare professional.
Undertake personal care and delegated clinical duties with minimal support, in line with the Health Education and Improvement Wales All-Wales Guidelines for Delegation.
Maintain safety, hygiene, and infection-control standards in the working environment at all times.
Escalate concerns or deterioration in patient condition promptly to the supervising registered healthcare professional.
Plan and prioritise your delegated workload, using your initiative to ensure tasks are completed efficiently, safely and effectively, adjusting to meet patient needs and urgent priorities.
Maintain accurate patient records and documentation, including observations, care delivered, communication with patients, carers, and other team members.
Communicate effectively with patients, their families/carers, colleagues, and across multidisciplinary teams in a clear, sensitive, and confidential manner.

Main duties of the job

Following training, you will perform a range of clinical tasks, including:
* Cannulation and venepuncture
* Wound care
* Measuring and recording vital signs, with prompt escalation of concerns to registered healthcare professional
* ECGs and blood sugar checks
* NEWS2

Works as part of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients within the outpatient setting under supervision provided by a registered healthcare professional.
Undertakes personal care activities and clinical care duties with minimal support and supervision as delegated by a registered healthcare professional in accordance with the HEIW All Wales Guidelines for Delegation.
Ensures the registered healthcare professional is regularly updated on the patients/clients condition and progress.
Ensures the working environment is safe and hygienic following infection prevention and control policies and processes.
Contributes to the teaching and supervision of students and junior staff.
Delivers role in accordance with Health Board/Trust Values and Code of Conduct for HCSWs in Wales.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Knowledge
* Level 3 qualification in a health care related subject Or Equivalent experience and can evidence work based competency demonstrating theoretical knowledge, and the ability to undertake clinical care duties relevant for the role which is gained through experience and worked based training/short courses.
* Knowledge of the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales and All Wales Delegation Guidelines (HEIW).
* Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures within a healthcare setting for example the principles of Safeguarding adults/children to keep patients within their care safe, and confidentiality for example General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
Experience
* Experience of working within a relevant heath or social care environment, providing direct patient care.
* Experience of working with patient groups relevant to area of practice.
* Experience of working within the NHS.
