The Tuition College is an established independent Tuition and Examination Centre based in Manchester. We support internal students and private candidates across GCSE and A-Level qualifications, ensuring full compliance with JCQ regulations and awarding body requirements.
We are seeking an experienced, organised and dependable Exams Officer & Centre Administrator to join our team. This is a key operational role requiring both regulatory expertise and strong administrative control.
Working Hours: Will vary, please see below
During Exam Season: November Series (September to Mid -November) and Summer Series (December to Mid-February)
* Monday to Friday – 8:00am to 4:00pm
Off-Season (Non-Exam Periods)
* Monday to Thursday– 4pm to 8:30pm
* Friday – 4pm to 8pm
Flexibility during peak examination periods is essential.
Role Overview
This is a dual-role position combining:
* Lead responsibility for Exams Management during exam periods
* Centre Administration & Financial Support throughout the year
The successful candidate must be confident working independently, managing strict deadlines and maintaining regulatory standards.
Exams Officer Responsibilities
* Manage all GCSE and A-Level examination entries
* Liaise directly with awarding bodies (Pearson Edexcel, OCR etc.)
* Ensure full compliance with JCQ regulations
* Administer and manage Access Arrangements
* Prepare Statements of Entry and candidate confirmations
* Produce seating plans and exam timetables
* Train and brief invigilators
* Oversee secure storage of confidential examination materials
* Manage post-results services (reviews of marking, appeals etc.)
* Maintain and update examination policies in line with JCQ requirements
* Experienced in conducting online examinations
Essential: Prior experience as an Exams Officer and strong knowledge of JCQ regulations.
Administration & Finance Responsibilities
* Respond to parent and candidate enquiries professionally
* Maintain accurate candidate records
* Issue invoices and monitor payments
* Follow up outstanding balances and historical debt
* Maintain organised digital and physical filing systems
* Support CRM/database systems
* Assist with safeguarding and compliance documentation
* General office administration duties
Strong attention to financial accuracy and detail is essential.
Person Specification
Essential:
* Previous experience as an Exams Officer
* Strong working knowledge of JCQ regulations
* Experience managing Access Arrangements
* Excellent organisational skills
* Confident communicator with parents, candidates and awarding bodies
* Ability to remain calm under pressure
* High attention to detail especially data input
* Strong IT skills (Excel, email systems, MIS/CRM platforms)
Desirable:
* Experience within an independent examination centre
* Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities

Salary
Competitive: £14 per hour
Job Type: Permanent
Pay: From £14.00 per hour
Expected hours: 22 – 40 per week
