Senior mental health liaison practitioner

Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Senior Mental Health Liaison Practitioner to join our dedicated 24/7 team based in Gloucester A&E Department. The successful applicant will participate in the provision of a responsive, needs-led mental health assessment and short-term intervention service to people presenting to the General Hospital experiencing mental distress, mental illness and/or self harm.

This role requires working a mixture of days and nights, with frequency to be discussed at interview. We offer a personalised induction to ensure you are fully prepared and supported in delivering this service.


Main Responsibilities

* Offer an assessment service to patients presenting at the emergency departments with a broad range of mental health and psychological problems, and psychiatric illnesses
* Provide a mental health consultation, liaison and advice service throughout the departments
* Deliver evidence-based psychosocial interventions to individual patients who have predominantly self-harmed
* Assist and support general hospital colleagues in making decisions about treatment and care in complex situations
* Provide formal and informal education and clinical supervision to registered and unregistered staff
* Represent mental health services within the Hospitals Trust
* Provide a communication structure between secondary mental health services, primary care and non-statutory services

The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills, a desire to deliver high-quality care, and a willingness to develop professionally.


Person Specification


Clinical Experience

* Professional Health or Care Qualification (MHSW, SROT, RMHN, RNLD)
* Clinical expertise in undertaking Self Harm assessments of adults and young people
* Proven knowledge and experience of providing therapeutic evidence-based interventions for individuals following episodes of self-harm
* Comprehensive knowledge of the MHA and Mental Capacity Act
* Recognised qualification in a specific model of therapy
* Significant post-qualifying experience of working with adults and young people with physical and mental health needs
* Experience of working in a general hospital setting


Professional

* Experience in developing/providing and evaluating professional development and education to a diverse workforce
* Experience in working and supporting colleagues through the processes of change
* Ability to participate in service development processes at a strategic level
* Experience and ability in the use of IT systems (including EPR)
