This role is within the technology department, where you'll work alongside a diverse design team focusing on electronics, mechanical systems, and shipboard installation design, and contribute to the development of various subsystem assemblies and products.
STS Defence typically solves challenges within the naval domain, for defence prime contractors including directly for MoD, on a number of programmes linked to communications systems. This role provides the opportunity to learn and grow, through coaching and mentoring, in a close-knit team of engineers working in an agile defence company environment.
We work on projects at different levels of technical maturity across design/product life-cycles, providing exposure the full spectrum of technology readiness levels, including early concept R&D work conduced within the department.
Under the remit of the Chief Technology Officer, the department and design team in particular, contribute to wider Systems Integration support within the company on secure programmes. This therefore requires a UK national able to attain the appropriate security clearances.
Responsibilities:
Support the design of digital and analogue electronics subassemblies using a range of embedded and communication system technologies
Work with subject matter experts on migrating early concepts into prototype designs towards established baselines ahead of design reviews
Work closely with internal stakeholders to further develop prototypes through production engineering ahead of manufacture
Document designs according to established quality management systems, including all levels of functional and detailed design and appropriate test specifications
Support the testing of prototypes at external test houses, for activities such as EMC compliance testing, to the relevant standards
Experience and Qualifications:
Bachelors or Masters degree in Electronic Engineering
Excellent analytical and numerical skills
Self-motivated and able to work independently against a project plan, but also able to work as part of a wider team with a diverse range of stakeholders
Ability to think creatively to overcome challenges, with an aptitude for continuous improvement
Articulate, verbally and in writing, including competency with standard Microsoft-based IT tools
Additional Information SECURITY All candidates must be in a position to obtain UK security clearance to SC level. Additional increased requirements may apply on certain defence programmes.
