An exciting opportunity for an experienced fundraiser to work as the first dedicated staff member for MPFT's charity. The postholder will have a unique opportunity to establish a strong foundation for the charity's growth, raise its profile within and beyond the Trust, and maximise the impact of donations on frontline services.

Job Responsibilities

* Developing and implementing a charity engagement and fundraising strategy.
* Ensuring the charity's activities align with the wider communications strategy and the wider Trust objectives.
* Proactively developing the charity's brand.
* Working with a range of stakeholders to publicise the charity and how they can get involved.
* Developing marketing material for the charity (print and digital).
* Establishing and delivering charity events which will build the profile of the charity.
* Proactively demonstrate the impact of donations on frontline services.
* Establish fundraising opportunities and ways for people to get involved with the aim of driving up the donations.
* Act as a single point of contact for the charity within the communications team.
* Lead on charity fundraising opportunities on behalf of the Trust.
* Report progress back into the Charity Committee.


Person Specification


Qualifications (Essential)

* Educated to degree level in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.


Qualifications (Desirable)

* Continuous professional development in engagement, communications (e.g. CIM/CIPR) and/or fundraising engagement.


Experience (Essential)

* Working in a charity engagement and/or communications role.
* Delivering charity fundraising engagement strategies, plans and campaigns.
* Developing charity-related procedures and processes.
* Building rewarding relationships with supporters and donors.
* Planning and delivering fundraising events (virtual and face‑to‑face).
* Writing for different audiences and channels and generating compelling cases for support.
* Building relationships with a variety of organisations and individuals.
* Working to deadlines and prioritising work.
* Creating and uploading content to websites, online and social media for the marketing and promotion of events and campaigns.


Experience (Desirable)

* Experience in managing volunteers.
* Experience of meeting fundraising targets.
* Experience of using photo, film and audio equipment to create content.
* Experience of dealing with sensitive information and an understanding of patient confidentiality.


Skill (Essential)

* Understanding of engagement principles and practices, particularly related to charity fundraising.
* Understanding of event organisation and facilitation (face‑to‑face and online) including event tools e.g. MS Teams, Zoom, Eventbrite etc.
* Understanding of digital communications including website, intranet and social media.
* Knowledge of standard office software e.g. Microsoft Office.


Skill (Desirable)

* Knowledge of fundraising/charity sector including codes of practice, trends and best practice in engagement/communications.
* Understanding of the NHS and wider health and social care agenda.
* Knowledge of creative design software and applications e.g. Canva.

* Able to engage with a wide range of organisations and individuals with a friendly, empathetic and professional approach.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to interpret and communicate complex information, both in writing and verbally.
* Write to a high standard, producing creative and persuasive copy for a range of communications.
* Highly organised, skilled at prioritising conflicting deadlines and the work of others, remaining efficient under pressure and flexible to unexpected demands.
* Ability to work on own initiative, making sound judgements on referring issues to managers and escalating problems appropriately.
* Compassionate, empathetic and caring to everyone.
* Enable yourself and others to act with confidence and authority in order to achieve the best outcome for everyone.
