Maintenance Officer / Caretaker This is a hands-on maintenance role supporting accommodation services, ensuring properties are safe, well maintained and ready for occupation. You will carry out general repairs, room turnarounds and planned maintenance across multiple sites. This role plays a vital part in maintaining safe, welcoming environments for people who have experienced or are at risk of homelessness. As a Maintenance Officer / Caretaker you will work across a main accommodation site, a larger campus-style service and a number of dispersed properties. The focus is on room turnaround, general repairs, decorating and ensuring properties are ready for new residents in a timely manner. The Maintenance Officer / Caretaker will join a small, multi-skilled property team, working closely with managers and colleagues to deliver reactive and planned maintenance. DUTIES Your duties as the Maintenance Officer / Caretaker include: Room Turnaround and Preparation: Cleaning, repairing and preparing rooms and flats for new occupants General Maintenance Work: Carrying out basic joinery, plumbing, painting and decorating tasks Furniture Assembly: Building and installing flat pack furniture as required Reactive Repairs: Responding to maintenance issues in occupied rooms and communal areas Planned Maintenance: Supporting ongoing property improvement and maintenance programmes Health and Safety Awareness: Identifying hazards and reporting or addressing health and safety issues Stock Management: Monitoring materials and advising on required supplies or specialist equipment Record Keeping: Updating maintenance information using internal systems CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS ESSENTIAL Previous experience in general maintenance, repairs or property upkeep Ability to carry out painting, decorating, basic joinery and minor plumbing tasks Confidence using hand and power tools safely A practical, flexible and proactive approach to work Ability to work independently and manage time effectively Willingness to work across multiple sites DESIRABLE Qualification in a relevant trade (e.g., plumbing, carpentry, electrical work) Experience of working in housing support, homelessness services, or a related field Experience of working with people with complex needs including challenging behaviour, substance misuse, mental health issues and/or criminal offending backgrounds Knowledge of health and safety compliance requirements such as COSHH, Legionella control etc Knowledge and understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures for vulnerable adults and children Full, clean UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purpose BENEFITS Company sick pay Pension contribution Life assurance (four times annual salary) Health care cash back scheme Employee Assistance Programme The organisation is committed to the active promotion of equal opportunity, both in the provision of services and as an employer of paid and unpaid workers.
