Highly Specialist Clinical Physiologist (Neurophysiology)

Band 8B clinical physiologist to work in neurophysiology at the National Society for Epilepsy, Sir William Gowers Ward, Chalfont St Peter, Buckinghamshire. The EEG service undertakes highly complex specialist diagnostic tests for adults in outpatient and inpatient settings, including video‑EEG telemetry, home video‑telemetry, ambulatory EEG, prolonged EEG with video and routine EEGs. The role includes managing a team of 6 physiologists and providing high‑quality EEG services.
Current working hours are 8:30 – 4:30 Monday – Friday.
Main duties of the job
* Effectively manage the EEG team, including absences and workload distribution.
* Lead and support the team, ensuring quality and excellence in all aspects of their work.
* Encourage and facilitate continuing professional development and fair access to opportunities.
* Ensure all tests are performed to the highest quality, providing support to junior team members.
* Undertake interpretation of results, complete accurate factual reports, and, where necessary, communicate findings directly with the consultant neurophysiologist.
* Participate in quality assurance, audit, and regional initiatives.
* Ensure compliance with professional guidelines and the UCLH governance framework.
Person Specification
Knowledge & Qualifications
* BSc (Hons) in Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology) or equivalent.
* IRCP Part I or equivalent.
* Member of a Professional Organisation.
* Post Graduate Diploma or equivalent experience.
Experience
* Capability to perform routine investigations offered by the telemetry unit, including reviewing and preparing factual reports.
* Ability to work autonomously on standard clinical work and with light supervision for complex procedures.
* Demonstrated knowledge of specialist skills and experience observing tests.
* Experience supervising students or trainees.
* Evidence of continued professional development.
* Knowledge of specialist procedures in video‑EEG telemetry acquired through accredited courses or equivalent experience.
Communication and Relationship Skills
* Effective and sensitive communication with patients, including those with communication difficulties or challenging/aggressive behaviour.
* Clear communication with departmental medical staff regarding complex specialist data and presentation at multidisciplinary meetings.
* Communication with other healthcare professionals from various disciplines.
* Informing visitors about the work of the department.
Skills and Abilities
* Practical skills to record routine neurophysiology investigations, applying electrodes accurately.
* Ability to work in challenging environments and with patients exhibiting confrontational behaviour.
* Organisation and prioritisation of own workload.

* Experience supervising student staff and visitors.
Specific Requirements
* Work flexibly, including manual dexterity for applying electrodes and maneuvering equipment.

Contractual and Compensation Details
* Salary: £68,852 to £79,638 per annum, inclusive of 5% fringe HCAS.
