Head of Major Projects

We seek a strategic leader with strong influencing and negotiation skills, capable of fostering collaborative relationships with clients, officers, members, and external partners. Commercially savvy and innovative, you'll unify diverse expertise to drive successful outcomes and shape our service offerings.
In this role, you'll lead teams shaping Essex's transportation system, covering traffic data, planning, scheme design, sustainable transport, flood management, consultancy, and air quality services. Additionally, you'll oversee third-party projects like developer-funded works.
The Role
1. Leading a diverse team to deliver both Essex County Council’s and Ringway Jacobs’ outcomes, including financial budget and programme forecasting, reporting and overall management of design delivery
2. Ensuring that all work streams are delivered identifying any shortfalls in resources and taking strategic action to address
3. As named Principal Designer on the Contract, ensuring that all schemes are implemented in accordance with CDM 2015, and all technical and legal processes are followed
4. Production of the annual service plan for the different areas, ensuring that continuous development is embedded into each of the teams and that there is a clear vision provided for the year ahead
5. Bringing together all teams to work collaboratively to ensure schemes are delivered in the most efficient manner, taking advantage of synergies and encouraging cross service working
About You
6. Educated to degree level and/or
7. Member of a relevant professional institution desirable
8. Significant and demonstrable management experience within either a Transport or Highways environment with track record of successful delivery of schemes, projects, and services.
9. Comprehensive knowledge of Health and Safety legislation
10. Excellent leadership skills with the ability to build a highly performing and motivated team from diverse backgrounds.
11. Excellent demonstratable leadership skills with the ability to direct and create highly performing and motivated teams.
12. Excellent influencing skills – able to build strong collaborative relationships with ability to see the big strategic picture and think long-term.
