Student Experience Coach – University of the West of England, Bristol
Overview
The Student Experience Coach Team is part of the Coaching Service in Student and Campus Life at UWE. Coaching is a collaborative process that helps students overcome challenges, set goals, and take ownership of actions for achieving their goals.
Key Objectives
* Grow students’ ability to engage and succeed in their studies through self‑efficacy delivered by a coaching approach, peer‑on‑peer academic and course support, and extra support for carers, care leavers, and refugees.
* Support students in realising their talents, building on existing skills to maximise degree outcomes, employment opportunities, and post‑study activities.
Responsibilities
* Meet students online or in person, through appointments and out‑reach work, focusing on students and programmes within the College of Arts, Technology and Environment.
* Use the T‑GROW model to help students create goals and actions and plan how they will meet them. Areas of coaching support include academic, self‑development, wellbeing, and self‑care.
* Deliver targeted group coaching sessions to student cohorts and reach out to students with low academic engagement or poor assessment results.
* Report to the Senior Student Experience Coach and work closely with other Student Experience Coaches, coaching services, and support teams across Student and Campus Life.
* Maintain regular contact with senior academic colleagues within the school, including Programme Leaders.
Qualifications
* Experience of coaching or a coaching approach that helps students find solutions and own their actions, using active listening, powerful questioning, and goal setting.
* An eye for innovation and the ability to collaborate within and beyond the service to meet objectives and key results and improve student performance.
