POST TITLE: Kitchen Assistant
RESPONSIBLE TO: Nursery Manager / Deputy Manager / Chef
QUALIFICATION REQUIRED: The Kitchen Assistant must hold, at a minimum, the Level 2 Food & Hygiene certificate or the equivalent/higher.
THE ROLE:
As a kitchen assistant you are effectively the engine room of the kitchen. Working under the guidance of the Chef, your job is to ensure that the kitchen is clean and operational. You will also be involved in preparing ingredients, so it is a great steppingstone to becoming a Chef.
An enhanced DBS check is required by Pippa's House Nursery before any appointment can be confirmed.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing all food preparation areas according to established standards of hygiene
Washing and appropriately storing all cooking appliances, instruments, utensils, cutting boards, and dishes.
Assisting the Chef with the preparation of meal ingredients, which includes washing, cleaning, peeling, cutting, and chopping fruit, vegetables, poultry, and meat.
Sweeping and mopping the kitchen floors as well as wiping down kitchen walls.
Assisting with the unloading of delivered food supplies.
Organizing and correctly storing food supplies.
Promptly transferring meal ingredients from storage areas to the kitchen as per the Chef's instructions.
Ensuring bins are emptied and disinfected regularly
Ensuring clean linen/laundry is available
An understanding of the dietary requirements of children within the setting
To run the kitchen smoothly in the absence of the Chef
To contribute to the creation of a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all children
To be aware of Pippa's House Nursery's policies and procedures and ensure these are adhered to
To contribute to the effective recording and resolution of any complaints or investigations, ensuring confidentiality at all times
To be professional and a good role model to the children and other staff members, at all times
To work flexibly as part of the larger team, assisting and supporting colleagues wherever required, to ensure the smooth running of the company
To be aware of the high profile of Pippa's House Nursery and refrain from irresponsible behaviour that could impact the company's commercial success.
