Healthcare support worker – Low Secure Forensic Directorate – Willow Ward, Shrewsbury, Shropshire.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, self‑motivated and innovative individual who can support men on the unit in their mental health recovery. The role requires building therapeutic relationships with service users, supporting them in all tasks of daily life, and maintaining an overall focus on health, wellbeing and quality of life.
As the unit is a low‑secure forensic service, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate a professional, non‑judgemental approach, conduct risk assessments as part of the job, and balance risk with the principle of least restrictive practice.
Responsibilities
* Assist nurses in running the ward safely and delivering patient‑centred care.
* Work 1‑to‑1 with service users, support nurses, and maintain therapeutic observations.
* Facilitate activities and support service users on “section 17” (leave).
* Attend staff meetings and workers meetings.
* Support service users with self‑care, limited personal care and encourage skill development for enhanced quality of life.
* Manage or assist with the provision of on‑site personal and health‑related support.
* Keep up to date with mandatory and essential training.
* Prepare accurate and timely documentation.
* Rotate through night shifts, long days, alternative weekend work and bank holidays (including Christmas and New Year).
Qualifications
* Understanding of mental health services.
* Understanding of forensic services.
