Overview

We are looking for a Children's Speech and Language Therapist to join Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust within the Nottingham City area. The role offers the opportunity to develop skills in working with a wide range of speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) in clinics, nursery/school settings and home environments. The closing date is 21 October 2025.


Main duties of the job

To work as part of a locality team to support children, families and settings in a designated geographical area. To assess, diagnose, design and deliver appropriate packages of care for children with a wide range of SLCN (e.g. speech and language difficulties, developmental language disorder, stammering, Autism).


DBS and disclosures

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced); this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.

Job responsibilities

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist who wishes to develop skills in working with a wide range of SLCN in clinics, nursery/school settings and home environments. The Speech and Language Therapy Service supports children with SLCN and eating and drinking needs across Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County. The service provides packages of care for children with speech and language difficulties, developmental language disorder, Autism, learning difficulties, physical difficulties, eating and drinking difficulties, voice disorders, hearing impairment and disorders of fluency. The service aims to provide support to children in the most appropriate setting (health, education, home).

We are a large department with opportunities to develop skills and specialisms. We work in teams with a shared caseload and actively support new staff to build confidence, including shadowing and CPD opportunities, and time to discuss cases as you develop your skills.

We would love to hear from you if you can or are keen to develop your skills to:

* Assess, diagnose, design and deliver appropriate packages of care for children with SLCN
* Work collaboratively with, and provide training and coaching for, parents, education staff and other professionals to ensure a well-coordinated support plan
* Identify and manage children with SLCN as part of the integrated team and advise SLTAs

Essential candidates will typically have:

* Recognised Speech and Language Degree Qualification or equivalent/working towards
* An interest in and experience (which could be undergraduate) of working with children and young people with a wide range of SLCN and eating and drinking difficulties
* Experience (which could be undergraduate) of working in schools and/or pre-school settings with children with communication difficulties
* An understanding of the role of the Speech and Language Therapist in meeting the needs of children accessing a community clinic service and/or school/pre-school settings
* An interest or experience in multidisciplinary team working
* A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use (reasonable adjustments available under the Equality Act 2010)

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Recognised SLT degree/diploma
* HCPC Registered or pending registration for final year SLT students


Experience

* Experience of administration associated with caseload management
* Experience of a range of assessments for children with SLCN
* Experience of working with children with a wide range of SLCN
* Experience of delivering a range of plans of care (POCs) for children with SLCN
* Team working experience
* Experience of working in a range of settings
* Experience coaching/supporting parents and setting-based staff
* Experience training others
* Experience supporting SLTAs


Knowledge

* Theoretical knowledge of SLT delivery and multidisciplinary working across contexts
* Knowledge of national policies relevant to the client group
* General knowledge of approaches to working with children with SLCN
* Signs and symbols knowledge
