Homeless Prevention Officer

Location: West Sussex
Hours: 37.5 per week (2 days in office)
Contract: Temporary – 3 months
Rate: £26–30 per hour
We are recruiting on behalf of a local authority in West Sussex for a proactive and compassionate Homeless Prevention Officer. This role offers the opportunity to make a real impact by helping individuals at risk of homelessness secure safe and sustainable housing.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide tailored housing advice and early intervention support to prevent homelessness.
* Assess housing needs and develop prevention plans under the Homelessness Reduction Act.
* Respond to Duty to Refer cases and work with housing associations to prevent evictions.
* Support access to private rented accommodation and carry out affordability assessments.
* Investigate illegal evictions and liaise with legal teams and enforcement agencies.
* Build partnerships with external agencies to ensure holistic support for clients.
* Maintain accurate case records and contribute to service development.
Candidate Profile
* Strong knowledge of housing legislation and homelessness prevention.
* Experience supporting vulnerable individuals and working within multi-agency teams.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to manage a varied caseload and remain resilient under pressure.
* Must hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.
* Enhanced DBS check required.
