All our children’s homes will offer a service to those children and young people for whom residential care is a placement of choice and assessed to be the most appropriate resource to enable them to fulfil their potential. We’re committed to workingwith our statutory partners as part of a trauma-informed, integrated approach which focuses holistically on what needs to change in order to achieve timely permanence.
About the role
This is a new and exciting joint development between the Social Work Academy and Gloucestershire’s children’s homes. We are determined that the quality of service we provide will be second to none and the Advanced Educator role will be integral to the quality of service we deliver. We are seeking someone with the knowledge, experience and skillset to develop outstanding residential leaders and practitioners in our homes.
You will work closely with the homes’ management teams to establish and implement ongoing, creative programmes of training, including the development of child-centred, trauma-informed approaches, alongside our colleagues in health. You will respond to inspections, Regulation 44 outcomes and individual programmes of care for children in the homes to ensure all areas for development are met. You will also act as a conduit for the commissioning of essential training and take lead responsibility for promoting practice standards within the homes, consistent with the Practice Framework across children’s services.
As part of the Academy team, you will ensure that residential staff receive the highest quality Professional Development that impacts directly on improving the life experiences of children, young people and families. You will also be integral in connecting our residential care resources and practitioners with colleagues across social work and social care to ensure the homes are fully integrated across children’s services and more widely.
About the Academy
The Academy is responsible for providing a welcoming and meaningful introduction to working in children’s services, optimising the many attractions of working for Gloucestershire County Council. It also ensures that our staff receive the highest quality continuing professional development that impacts directly on improving the life experiences of children, young people, and families. Aligned with this, it provides quality assurance for practice across children’s services. The Academy also supports staff with their professional accreditation responsibilities and career progression options.
About you
You will be recognised for your expertise and excellence relating to children’s residential care, providing leadership, group supervision, evidence, and professional wisdom to developing staff.You will have wide practice experience and proven ability to promote innovation and evidence-informed practice. You will be confident in introducing improved ways of working and able to model and encourage reflective practice and effective learning opportunities responsive to local needs.
As well as yourextensive experience of working within statutory services for children, young people, and families, including experience of working at a supervisory level within the children’s residential care sector, you will also need:
* a professional social work qualification, or similar from a statutory background (e.g. NHS, police, education, restorative practice) and/or a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare.
* an ability to satisfactorily pass DBS requirements
* a practice educator award is desirable but not essential for social work qualified applicant (or willingness to complete thequalification whilst in post)
