NHS Consultant in Pain Medicine (+/- Anaesthesia)
Job Summary
The Pain Management Service offers a holistic approach, including outpatient and inpatient care, with a team comprising clinical psychologists, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and healthcare assistants. The Consultant will provide a comprehensive service within a multidisciplinary pain team, focusing on chronic and complex pain management while maintaining high patient care standards, ensuring Trust protocol compliance and collaborating with various departments to enhance service delivery.
Main duties of the job
* Provide a consultant service within a multidisciplinary pain team for patients with chronic pain.
* Ensure personal knowledge of, and compliance with, Trust and departmental protocols.
* Maintain high quality of patient care with minimal risk and enhance patient satisfaction with informed consent following GMC guidelines.
* Help in the delivery of effective services within the agreed budget.
* Co‑operate with other departments and agencies to meet objectives of the Pain Services, Anaesthetic and Critical Care Departments.
* Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of patients.
* Promote new ways of working and coordinate care for patients in the hospital and community, ensuring services are based on effective and integrated partnerships across the health community.
* Take part in multidisciplinary case discussions and meetings.
* Work with the multi‑professional team to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines working close with the clinical lead.
* Develop and maintain good working practices within wards, outpatients and A&E.
* Collaborate and promote close working links with colleagues in tertiary centres, community services and primary care.
* Provide training, supervision and career development to junior doctors and career grade.
Essential Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
* FRCA or its recognised equivalent.
Desirable Qualifications
* Other professional qualification or higher degree e.g., in medical education, clinical research or management.
* Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine of the Royal College of Anaesthetists (FFPMRCA) or equivalent.
* Membership of appropriate professional organization e.g. IASP, British Pain Society, FIPP or EFIC.
Entry Criteria
* Full Registration and a licence to practise with the General Medical Council.
* Meets the criteria set out in the Specialist generic capabilities framework.
* Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR) at time of interview.
Experience
* Knowledge and experience of working in the National Health Service.
* Advanced training and experience in pain medicine or equivalent.
