Overview
We are seeking an experienced qualified Reporting Radiographer to aid in the advancement of our Reporting Service and ensure that scans are reported with the utmost excellence within the appropriate time frame.
You should possess extensive experience in establishing governance and implementing best practices in accordance with professional standards.
As part of this role, you will be expected to meet the four pillars of advanced practice, conduct diagnostic imaging and maintain relevant records, supervise junior Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners, Apprentices and students, assist in teaching SpRs, and participate in research and audit.
Main duties
* Undertake independent image interpretation in line with the scope of practice, with the view to provide detailed written or verbal reports to referring clinicians, to determine diagnosis where applicable, as part of the delegated radiographers extended role.
* Organise workload in areas of delegated responsibility on a daily basis, maximising efficiency using available resources and managing patient priority as appropriate.
* Conduct examinations, producing high quality diagnostic images across a range of modalities, ensuring safe practice is carried out in accordance with departmental protocols and in line with clinical scope of practice.
* Provide independent, timely, accurate and appropriate clinical reports for a range of radiography examinations (plain film, MRI, CT) from a range of referral sources as appropriate to scope of practice.
* Practice at the standards and responsibilities expected of a reporting radiographer according to local policy and procedures, and safely in a radiation working environment in accordance with IR(ME)R 2017 legislation.
* Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, acting as an independent radiographic practitioner and maintaining HCPC and College of Radiographers standards.
* Assess clinical justification of radiography referrals in line with IR(ME)R 2017 and local guidelines, where appropriate.
* Autonomously carry out radiographic imaging using ionising radiation (and/or high strength magnetic field), ensuring high quality images to enable accurate diagnoses while minimising radiation.
* Interpret clinicians’ requirements and determine appropriate protocol; liaise with referrers for clarification as needed and act as a point of advice.
* Monitor and maintain a safe working environment with regard to quality assurance, infection control, and general health and safety issues.
* Provide an efficient and effective service to patients and staff, maintaining a high standard of patient care.
* Ensure infection control measures are undertaken, including personal protection, cleaning of equipment, and appropriate handling of linen; ensure equipment is maintained and faults are addressed with records kept for audit purposes.
* Record all examinations accurately on radiology information systems and relevant trust-wide platforms, adhering to data protection requirements.
* Support radiation protection lead and supervisors in evaluating monitoring systems and practices according to local rules.
* Work as part of the Imaging workforce as required; provide detailed written and/or verbal reports and adapt technique as appropriate.
* Act as a source of information and advice for peers, junior staff, students, referrers and medical staff within the department.
* Establish and maintain professional knowledge to enable safe delivery of practice; authorise and vet requests for specialist areas using departmental guidelines, efficiently managing unsuitable requests.
* Prioritise patient workload and that of junior staff; work closely with doctors and other medical staff to ensure protocols are adhered to; maintain training opportunities for referrers as requested for audit purposes.
* Ensure quality of images produced by themselves and junior staff, taking action on any images not meeting required standards.

* BSc(Hons) Radiography, DCR(D) or equivalent
* PgCert/PgDip/MSc (or equivalent) plain film reporting

Experience
* Essential: relevant post-qualification experience as a senior radiographer in multiple modalities; experience in monitoring junior staff
* Desirable: previous experience in a reporting radiographer role; teaching/supervision in radiology; NHS management experience
Knowledge & Skills
* Up-to-date general imaging knowledge; standards for reporting radiographer; knowledge of DATIX, PACS, Soliton
* Effective communication; customer-focused service; ability to prioritise and work under pressure; good PC skills and data analysis
