Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance, or be eligible to obtain SC clearance as part of onboarding. This is a remote-first position with occasional travel to London or surrounding offices. The service operates 24/7 and includes participation in a rota-based on-call arrangement, with overtime paid where applicable.
Your future duties and responsibilities
In this role, you will take ownership of the application platform and infrastructure components that underpin multiple environments across our Continuous Improvement Teams. You will design, build and optimise secure CI/CD pipelines, ensuring scalable, reliable, and repeatable software delivery aligned to DevSecOps best practice. Working collaboratively with developers, security specialists and infrastructure teams, you will embed security and quality from the outset, enabling shift-left testing and continuous improvement across the software lifecycle.
You will proactively monitor and enhance platform performance, lead incident resolution, and implement automation to reduce manual effort and improve resilience. By combining technical expertise with a continuous improvement mindset, you will help shape a robust, high-availability platform that supports critical production services and drives long-term operational excellence.
Key responsibilities:
Design and deliver secure, scalable CI/CD pipelines across multiple environments
Engineer and optimise cloud and virtualised infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code
Automate and enhance provisioning, configuration, and remediation processes
Monitor and improve platform performance, reliability, and capacity planning
Embed and strengthen security controls, compliance validation, and vulnerability scanning
Collaborate and enable development teams to streamline deployments and improve delivery outcomes
Respond & Resolve incidents through proactive monitoring and structured troubleshooting
Innovate & Evolve platform capabilities by adopting emerging DevSecOps practices
Support & Safeguard production services through rota-based out-of-hours cover
Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role
To succeed in this role, you will bring proven experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or SysOps within secure, complex environments. You will have strong expertise in CI/CD tooling, cloud infrastructure, automation, and security best practices, alongside a collaborative mindset and the ability to take ownership of resilient, high-performing platforms in an Agile setting.
Essential qualifications and experience:
You should have proven experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, or similar roles
Strong experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jenkins) and Git-based version control
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (preferably Azure), virtualised environments, and container technologies (e.g., Docker)
Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code tools (e.g., Terraform, ARM, Azure Bicep)
Experience administering Linux and/or Windows Server environments
Proficiency in scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash) and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible)
Experience with monitoring and observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, Dynatrace, Zabbix)
Understanding of database platforms and backup/recovery practices (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
Strong understanding of cloud and container security, including SAST, DAST, and SCA within CI/CD pipelines
Familiarity with security frameworks (e.g., OWASP, CIS) and risk management practices
Experience working in Agile environments using tools such as Jira and Confluence
