Role Overview
Specialist Engineering role at HSBC. HSBC is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations, operating in 64 countries and territories. The Enterprise Technology team designs, builds, and maintains the systems owned by Group Functions, working with over 8,000 people across 14 countries and supporting more than 3,000 applications.
Location and Working
This role is based in Sheffield and offers the flexibility of hybrid working.
Responsibilities
* Work with business and functional stakeholders to understand strategy and generate architecture roadmaps.
* Prepare engineering designs and solution architecture, from logical to physical infrastructure.
* Align the Protective Security Book of Work with functional and architecture roadmaps.
* Participate in Architectural Governance to ensure solutions align with the enterprise roadmaps and the Group’s Future State Architecture.
* Represent PS in the PGC & GCOO Technologies Technical Design Authority for Corporate Services.
* Ensure solutions use group‑approved technology and adhere to approved design patterns.
* Oversee the hosting of deployed system solutions—whether vendor supplied, in‑house, or cloud (PaaS, SaaS)—and coordinate approval processes.
* Stay informed on industry trends and identify innovation opportunities.
Requirements
* In‑depth technical, functional, and non‑functional knowledge of networking, IoT/Edge technologies, protective security technologies (EACS, SVS, biometrics, video analytics), server infrastructure and virtualization, cloud infrastructure (particularly Azure), middleware, and databases.
* Strong understanding of Enterprise Architecture concepts, principles, governance, and best practices, and ability to relate architecture to business strategy and target operating models.
* Experience with technologies used by HSBC’s strategic partners: AWS, Google GCP, Azure, MuleSoft.
* System engineering experience, able to evaluate and recommend solutions aligned with business requirements.
* Proven vendor‑management experience.
