Headteacher (Ysgol Robert Owen)
Job description
The Governing Body of Ysgol Robert Owen is pleased to invite applications from highly experienced and skilled senior leaders who are ready to lead the next stage of development of a thriving and distinctive specialist provision. Since moving into our state-of-the-art, purpose-built special educational needs facility in September 2024, Ysgol Robert Owen has continued to grow and evolve. We now seek an exceptional Headteacher who can build on the strong foundations already in place, further develop this unique provision, and shape the future of specialist education at the heart of Powys. The Governors are seeking to appoint an inspirational, enthusiastic and deeply committed Headteacher who will provide strategic and operational leadership for our specialist provision. The successful candidate will lead the continued development of high-quality teaching and learning, nurture and inspire learners and staff, and strengthen the resilience and confidence of parents and families. A key element of the role will be developing strong
partnerships with the local and wider community, as well as working effectively with a range of external agencies.
The successful candidate will:
• place the social, emotional and educational needs of children and young
people firmly at the centre of their leadership, with an unwavering
commitment to improving outcomes and life chances for all learners;
• demonstrate a proven record of successful senior leadership within
specialist or additional learning needs provision, with the ability to
motivate, inspire and develop others;
• have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling them to
further strengthen partnerships with parents, carers and the wider
community; and
• possess the vision, drive and enthusiasm to sustain and further enhance our positive, high-performing and inclusive culture.
Governors and learners strongly encourage prospective candidates to visit
Ysgol Robert Owen. These visits provide an invaluable opportunity to spend meaningful time with learners across all age groups and a wide range of needs, and to gain a genuine understanding of our provision, ethos and aspirations.
Visits can be arranged during term time up to the closing date.
This is a significant and rewarding leadership opportunity for an experienced professional who is passionate about specialist education and committed to making a lasting difference to the lives of children, young people and their families.
Pupils and governors expect prospective candidates to visit our school. During these visits, candidates will be expected to spend significant time with pupils across age groups and with the broadest of needs. School visits can be arranged by contacting Lynda Crunkhorn (Business Manager) on or 01686 627454.
