Solution Architect - Nuclear Decommission IT Transfer Project
Location: Gloucester (Hybrid - 1 day per week onsite)
Contract Length: Until 31st December 2025 (with possible extension)
Day Rate: £500-£600/day (Inside IR35)
Security Clearance: Must be eligible for SC Clearance
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect to join a high-profile programme focused on the transfer of data and infrastructure associated with decommissioned nuclear power stations. The successful candidate will play a key role in the Nuclear Decommission IT Transfer Project, helping deliver complex data and application solutions that enable the successful handover to a third party responsible for deconstruction. You will be a critical figure in defining and delivering scalable, secure, and efficient IS/IT solutions aligned with the organisation's enterprise architecture and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Solution Design & Architecture
Develop and document IS/IT solution designs aligned with business capabilities and enterprise architecture.
Design cost-effective, scalable solutions that adhere to enterprise and application architecture standards.
Translate business requirements into technical specifications, ensuring best practices are followed.
Produce high-quality architecture deliverables throughout the project lifecycle using appropriate methodologies and tools.
2. Stakeholder Engagement
Collaborate with the Technical Architect to ensure cohesive application and technical architecture.
Act as an Intelligent Customer for solution architecture and design, ensuring all solutions meet Site Licence compliance and quality standards.
Liaise with internal stakeholders, third-party providers, and other business units to ensure architectural integrity.
3. Leadership & Governance
Lead architectural aspects of the IT transfer process, particularly data and application architecture.
Ensure that nuclear safety remains the overriding priority in all delivered solutions.
Guide and mentor development teams, ensuring adherence to technical standards.

1. Strong expertise in data architecture, integration patterns, and cloud technologies.
2. Proven experience designing and delivering robust data transfer solutions.
3. Knowledge of application architecture and how it supports business capability.
4. Ability to assess, select, and implement appropriate tools and technologies for complex IT projects.
5. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Desirable Experience
1. Prior experience in IT divestment projects, particularly involving data, systems, and infrastructure transfers.
2. Working knowledge of regulatory compliance and data security standards, especially in regulated or high-sensitivity environments (e.g. nuclear, defence, etc.).
Additional Information
This is a contract role until 31st December 2025, with potential for extension.
The role is hybrid, requiring 1 day per week onsite in Gloucester.
The role falls Inside IR35.
SC Clearance eligibility is required for this role.
