Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer - Nuclear Decommissioning Projects
* Location: Reading (3-4 days on-site per week)
* Duration: 6-12 months Contract
* Start Date: ASAP
* Rate: £54 per hour (inclusive of base location expenses)
I am recruiting a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a high-profile nuclear decommissioning programme in Reading. This role is ideal for someone passionate about mechanical systems design in safety-critical environments. You'll be at the forefront of delivering safe, compliant, and robust mechanical designs that support the decommissioning of nuclear facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead mechanical design processes from concept to delivery using CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
* Produce technical documentation including specifications, reports and manuals in line with nuclear regulatory standards.
* Support prototyping, simulations and FEA to validate and refine design concepts.
* Liaise with internal and external stakeholders across design, engineering and manufacturing teams.
* Ensure design compliance with health, safety, environmental, and nuclear legislation alongside engaging in continuous improvement of design methodologies and industry best practices.
* Provide input across multiple project stages, from feasibility through to construction and commissioning.
Expectations/Qualifications:
* Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (minimum ONC/OND required; HNC/HND desirable).
* 2+ years' experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within the nuclear or high-hazard sectors.
* Proficient in CAD (AutoCAD, SolidWorks), with experience in FEA and design validation tools an advantage.
* Strong understanding of engineering legislation and design compliance.
* Highly organised with strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
