Job Description:
Are you an experienced Estimator?
Do you have a background in producing estimates, budgets, and cash flow reports for land acquisitions?
Do you live within a commutable distance of Kingston upon Hull?
I have a new vacancy for an estimator to join a well-respected developer in Kingston upon Hull, building sustainable new homes and communities across the region.
Working in the commercial team, you will contribute to the land department, preparing accurate development budgets, cash flows, and estimates for land pre-purchase and final budgets before handover, ensuring maximum cost effectiveness.
Summary of duties:
* Utilise computerised estimating/measurement software to produce accurate take-offs and cost estimates.
* Review and interpret tender documentation including correspondence, drawings, and specifications (both paper and digital formats).
* Analyse subcontractor and supplier quotations, identifying and resolving conditions or qualifications.
* Document and record tender costs, outputs, and key data throughout the tender process.
* Provide value engineering input by challenging design proposals and identifying more cost-effective solutions.
* Liaise with internal teams, consultants, and external stakeholders to communicate requirements and resolve queries.
What’s needed:
* Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
* Experience with estimating software (Bluebeam or similar).
* Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
* Strong communication skills, confident liaising at all levels.
* Knowledge of construction techniques and current building regulations.
* Experience in a housing Quantity Surveying role is desirable but not essential.
What we’re looking for:
* A proactive, solution-oriented professional with keen attention to detail.
* Ability to manage workload in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
* A collaborative team player willing to challenge assumptions and contribute ideas.
The ideal candidate would have a house building background and be able to start with minimal supervision. The client will also consider estimators from a main contractor background.
Based in Kingston upon Hull, the client offers a flexible working pattern: 1 day from home and 4 days in the office, with occasional travel. This is an exciting opportunity to join a developer investing heavily in land within the area and committed to the region long-term.
Salary is competitive DOE, plus excellent benefits and packages!
