Overview
Consultant in Upper Gastrointestinal (GI) Surgery with Specialist Interest in benign Upper GI and HPB surgery. The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is a large tertiary and district general hospital providing a comprehensive range of services with a track record of high-quality care.
The Trust is one of the largest acute and community providers in the West Midlands, with more than 850 beds at New Cross Hospital, 56 rehabilitation beds at West Park Hospital, and 54 beds at Cannock Chase Hospital. The Trust employs close to 10,000 staff across more than 350 roles. You will join a general surgical department including Upper GI, Colorectal, Breast and Vascular Services; the Upper GI team currently comprises four Consultants.
Responsibilities
* Provide UGI and general surgical services in theatre, outpatient, and ward settings.
* Lead on developing the benign UGI and HPB service for the future.
* Contribute to seven-day service rotas, including the general surgery emergency rota (1 in 14) and the UGI weekend rota.
* Participate in delivering services across New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital (two sites).
* Support and develop minimally invasive techniques, with opportunities to advance robotic-assisted colorectal surgery into the UGI field subject to training.
Qualifications
* Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) and be included on the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT/CESR at the time of interview.
* GMC Specialist Registration or registration within 6 months of CCT/CESR.
* Desirable: Higher Medical Degree.
* Experience: fellowship of RCS.
