Personal Assistant
A part‑time role for a Personal Assistant to support a 13‑year‑old girl who experiences challenging behaviours and requires 2‑to‑1 support to safely access the community. The role requires two support workers to work together at all times (2‑to‑1 support).
About the young person
13‑year‑old girl who enjoys going out to various places and has a particular interest in arts and crafts activities. She is lively, thrives with engaging activities and positive support.
Purpose of the job
To work as part of a 2‑to‑1 support team to enable her to participate in community activities safely and positively. This includes supporting her with arts and crafts activities, outings to local attractions, managing challenging behaviours using positive behaviour support strategies, and helping her develop social skills and independence in a community setting.
Place of work
Trowbridge area, Cardiff and surrounding community locations.
Hours of work
8 hours ongoing term time and 10 hours during school holidays.
Rate of pay
£14.85 per hour.
Tasks involved
* Support her to access community activities and outings safely.
* Facilitate and participate in arts and crafts activities.
* Manage and respond appropriately to challenging behaviours using agreed positive behaviour support strategies.
* Work collaboratively with the other support worker to ensure consistent, safe and high‑quality support.
* Encourage positive social interaction, communication and appropriate behaviour.
* Provide personal care support as needed.
* Maintain accurate records of activities, progress and any incidents.
* Promote her independence and self‑confidence.
* Follow all safeguarding policies and procedures.
Type of person required
Essential qualities
* Reliable, punctual and committed.
* Experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviours.
* Ability to remain calm, patient and positive in challenging situations.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills – ability to work effectively as part of a 2‑to‑1 team.
* Understanding of safeguarding and child protection principles.
* Car driver with own transport and business insurance.
* Physically able to support a young person who may require physical intervention during episodes of challenging behaviour.
* Creative, enthusiastic and able to plan engaging activities.
* Flexible with working hours including weekends.
Desirable qualities
* Experience working with children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN).
* Training in positive behaviour support, Team Teach or other behaviour management techniques.
* Experience with and interest in arts and crafts activities.
* Knowledge of local community resources and activities suitable for young people.
* First aid training.
* Previous experience working in a 2‑to‑1 support capacity.
Additional information
Part‑time job requiring a National Insurance number. Probation period and DBS check at no expense to you. Wages paid 4 weekly. 5.6 weeks paid holiday (pro‑rata).
