Overview
We are seeking a commercially driven and strategically minded Growth Director / Director of Strategy to lead business growth, market expansion, and strategic development for a specialist consultancy serving the energy sector. This individual will play a critical role in shaping the firm's growth agenda in this area, identifying new market opportunities, strengthening client relationships, and driving revenue generation across consulting services.
The successful candidate will combine deep strategic thinking with strong commercial execution, helping clients navigate the evolving energy landscape while positioning the consultancy for sustained growth across traditional energy, renewables, energy transition, utilities, infrastructure, and emerging technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Growth & Business Development
* Develop and execute the company’s growth strategy aligned with overall business objectives.
* Identify new market opportunities, service offerings, and geographic expansion opportunities.
* Build and maintain a robust business development pipeline across energy, utilities, renewables, and infrastructure markets.
* Lead strategic pursuits, bids, and proposals for major consulting engagements.
* Drive revenue growth through new client acquisition and expansion of existing accounts.
* Develop strategic partnerships and alliances with industry stakeholders, technology providers, investors, and sector organisations.
Market & Industry Leadership
* Monitor energy market trends, regulatory developments, investment activity, and emerging technologies.
* Identify opportunities arising from energy transition, decarbonisation, electrification, digital transformation, and sustainability initiatives.
* Provide market intelligence and strategic insights to support both internal growth initiatives and client engagements.
* Represent the consultancy at industry conferences, forums, and networking events.
* Build the firm's reputation as a trusted advisor within the energy sector.
Client Relationship Management
* Develop executive-level relationships with key decision-makers across utilities, energy producers, developers, investors, government agencies, and industrial energy users.
* Serve as a senior advisor on strategic consulting engagements.
* Identify cross-selling and upselling opportunities across the consultancy's service portfolio.
* Ensure exceptional client satisfaction and long-term account growth.
Consulting & Strategic Advisory Leadership
* Lead complex strategy and transformation engagements for energy sector clients.
* Advise clients on growth strategy, market entry, operating model design, energy transition strategies, M&A support, investment cases, and commercial optimisation.
* Guide multidisciplinary consulting teams to deliver high-quality client outcomes.
* Contribute to the development of innovative consulting methodologies and intellectual property.
Revenue & Performance Management
* Own and deliver annual revenue and profitability targets.
* Develop and manage strategic account plans and growth forecasts.
* Track sales performance, pipeline health, conversion rates, and business development KPIs.
* Collaborate with leadership to establish growth objectives and investment priorities.
Leadership & Team Development
* Mentor and develop consulting and business development professionals.
* Foster a high-performance, growth-oriented culture.
* Support recruitment, retention, and capability development initiatives.
* Champion collaboration across consulting, delivery, operations, and leadership teams.

Required Experience
Essential
* 10+ years of experience within management consulting, strategy consulting, energy advisory, or related professional services.
* Demonstrated success in business development, sales, and revenue growth.
* Strong understanding of the energy sector, including one or more of:

* Grid infrastructure

* Proven experience leading complex client engagements and executive stakeholder relationships.

* Experience within a leading consultancy, energy advisory firm, engineering consultancy, or specialist energy services provider.
* Knowledge of UK, European, or global energy markets.
* Experience supporting M&A, investment strategy, market entry, or transformation programmes.
