The Opportunity: Lead Product Owner, Growth Capabilitie s We are seeking a highly experienced and influential Lead Product Owner to drive the strategy, discovery, and comprehensive product delivery planning for a pivotal capability that empowers WPP's Growth team within our WPP Open product ecosystem. Reporting to the Director of Product Ownership, in this crucial role, you will be responsible for translating the strategic vision for enabling the Growth team into a comprehensive delivery strategy and high-level roadmap, defining the end-state, direction, and an overarching plan of work for this capability with a 6-month horizon. This role requires a forward-thinking product leader who can deeply understand the Growth team's challenges and opportunities, identify innovative solutions – including those leveraging agentic AI – and ensure seamless integration with the WPP Open core platform. You will lead high-level discovery, define strategic roadmaps, and provide strategic direction to Product Delivery Team, empowering them to drive detailed execution. Working closely with the Director of Product Ownership, engineering leads, and key senior stakeholders, you will champion best practices, ensure operational readiness, and contribute significantly to the overall product delivery strategy, ultimately driving measurable impact for WPP's growth initiatives. Key Responsibilities: Vision & Strategic Roadmap Ownership: Define, prioritise, and maintain the strategic product roadmap for a comprehensive capability that enables the Growth team, ensuring direct alignment with overall WPP Growth strategy, WPP's vision, and key business stakeholders. Own the translation of strategic vision for this Growth-enabling capability, defining its end-state, direction, and an overarching plan of work across other product areas with a 6-month horizon. Translate strategic Growth objectives into tangible product initiatives and features, focusing on measurable business outcomes and user value for both internal and potential external client stakeholders. Continuously evolve the roadmap based on market shifts, technological advancements (including agentic AI), competitive landscapes, and ongoing discovery specific to the Growth domain People Leadership Provide direct line management, coaching, and mentorship to a team of Senior and Mid-level Product Owners, fostering their professional growth, setting clear performance objectives, and conducting regular reviews. Develop and implement best practices for product management within your team, ensuring consistency, quality, and continuous improvement in product planning and execution. Identify and nurture product talent, contributing to the overall strength and capability of the WPP Open product organisation. Collaborate with the Director of Product Ownership to implement and refine product management processes, frameworks, tooling, and personal development plans across the wider product function. Product Discovery & Solution Innovation: Lead comprehensive product discovery for new capabilities and features within priority Growth areas. This includes assessing strategic user needs, potential business value, and technical feasibility. Evaluate existing capabilities to identify opportunities for enhancement, expansion, or repurposing based on value and effort, with a keen eye for leveraging AI and automation where appropriate. Investigate and assess optimal development paths for various solutions, determining whether they are suitable for leveraging existing WPP Open core platform features, self-serve tools, or require dedicated development within a centralised managed product pod. Conduct discovery for critical data integrations to identify respective solutions, whether through Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) or longer-term integrations with Open Intelligence and the broader WPP Open ecosystem. Delivery Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Develop detailed delivery plans and manage the product backlog for initiatives, ensuring clear requirements, meticulous prioritisation, and effective user story decomposition. Collaborate closely with engineering leads, Product Design, and specific development teams to ensure efficient, high-quality execution and seamless integration with the WPP Open core platform. Facilitate cross-team prioritisation and dependency management across multiple development teams and product areas, working to resolve conflicts and ensure smooth flow of value. Identify and recommend necessary resourcing, including "power users" for specific tools or other specialised skillsets, to support the development and adoption of new product capabilities. Operational Readiness & Platform Integration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., enablement, marketing, sales, support, operations) to ensure overarching operational readiness for product launches, including coordinating training, documentation, and support processes. Assess and mitigate broader operational risks associated with new feature releases across your capabilities, ensuring a smooth transition and stable post-launch performance, with a strong focus on seamless integration with the WPP Open core platform architecture. Stakeholder Engagement & Value Realisation: Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, translating their needs and strategic objectives into clear, actionable product requirements and fostering continuous alignment. Proactively engage with a diverse range of senior stakeholders, including business SMEs, product leads, design leads, delivery leads, engineering leads, and key senior stakeholders, to gather feedback, clarify strategic intent, and build consensus for complex product initiatives. Communicate overall product progress, strategic plans, and insights to senior stakeholders, ensuring clarity in complex discussions and articulating the measurable impact of delivered capabilities. Influence prioritisation decisions at a cross-team level, advocating for the most impactful work and managing expectations effectively. Define and track key performance Indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and business impact of the delivered solutions for Growth, driving iterative improvements based on data. Ensure product outcomes directly contribute to the business KPIs established by key senior stakeholders, demonstrating a clear understanding of the value being created through execution. Drive continuous iteration and improvement across your group of capabilities, leveraging user feedback, data insights, and market performance to optimise execution and value delivery. What you'll need: Extensive experience in product ownership, with demonstrable leadership in strategic delivery planning for significant product capabilities or platforms. Experience in line management and coaching of mid/senior product owners including performance management, career development and mentorship across the product discipline. Proven ability to translate strategic business objectives into comprehensive, actionable delivery plans and roadmaps. Extensive experience in leading high-level product discovery, defining end-state and direction for complex solutions, and providing strategic guidance to other Product Owners. Deep expertise in Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) at scale, including practices that support rapid, iterative delivery and post-launch optimisation. Proven ability to lead, influence, and align multiple cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders towards efficient and outcome-driven delivery. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts (technical, business, strategic) to diverse audiences, including senior leadership, and inspire confidence. An analytical mindset, with the ability to leverage data and user insights to drive process improvements, measure delivery performance, and inform continuous product iteration. Demonstrable experience in developing comprehensive rollout strategies, managing product launches, and ensuring operational readiness. Experience with AI/ML-driven products, agentic capabilities, or advanced automation solutions, and an understanding of their application in a business context.
