Position Overview
The Senior Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer will play a critical role in the construction and commissioning of RB plant projects, spanning the pharmaceuticals, aggregates, and food & beverage manufacturing sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading EC&I design, installation, and validation activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and project objectives.
Main Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate EC&I engineering activities throughout all phases of RB plant construction projects.
* Develop, review, and approve EC&I designs, specifications, and documentation in line with client requirements and regulatory standards (e.g., GAMP, ATEX, IEC, BS/EN standards).
* A strong background in ATEX design would be a significant advantage for this role.
* Oversee the selection, procurement, and integration of electrical, control, and instrumentation systems, ensuring compatibility with process and safety requirements.
* Communication with and advising of subcontractors, site engineers, and installation teams to ensure high-quality and timely project delivery.
* Conduct risk assessments, take part in HAZOPs, and safety reviews for all EC&I systems and installations.
* Provision of assistance during commissioning, testing, and validation of EC&I systems, ensuring robust documentation and compliance with quality standards.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including process, mechanical, and civil engineers, as well as project management and client representatives.
* Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues arising during installation and commissioning phases.
* Ensure all EC&I activities and installations comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
* Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and training to junior engineers and other team members as required.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
* Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Control & Instrumentation Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
* Minimum of 8 years' relevant experience in EC&I engineering, with a preference for exposure to plant construction within the pharmaceuticals, aggregates, or food & beverage manufacturing sectors.
* Proven track record in managing EC&I aspects of complex capital projects from concept through to commissioning and handover.
* Strong knowledge of industry regulations, standards, and best practices (e.g., GMP, GAMP, ATEX, IEC 61511, BS7671 BS/EN standards).
* Experience with distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), SCADA systems, and industrial networks.
* Familiarity with hazardous area design and instrumentation for explosive atmospheres.
* Demonstrable experience in project management, contractor supervision, and stakeholder engagement.
* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
* Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable Skills & Attributes
* Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards it.
* Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS), process automation, and smart manufacturing technologies.
* Knowledge of sustainable design practices and energy efficiency in industrial environments.
* Strong IT skills, including proficiency with EC&I design and simulation software (e.g., AutoCAD, MS Excel, Trimble Prodesign).
* Ability to mentor and develop junior engineers and apprentices.
Working Conditions
* Primarily Hybrid-based role, with occasional travel to the head office in Lenham and client sites as required.
* Flexibility to work extended hours and weekends during critical project phases.
* Compliance with all site safety policies and PPE requirements.
