Purpose of the Role
The General Manager (GM) will lead the day-to-day running and long-term success of the Federation of Sport venue. Reporting directly to the ownership/board, the GM will oversee all aspects of operations — including bar, kitchen, merchandise, events, gaming, and customer experience — ensuring financial performance, operational excellence, and a first-class visitor experience.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a highly experienced hospitality professional with a proven track record in running large, complex venues that combine food & beverage, events, and sports/entertainment.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership
* Oversee daily operations across the bar, kitchen, merchandise shop, gaming areas, and events.
* Ensure exceptional customer experience at every touchpoint.
* Maintain high operational standards in service, cleanliness, and presentation.
Financial Management
* Full P&L responsibility for a multi-million-pound turnover venue.
* Budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and financial reporting.
* Drive revenue growth through food & beverage sales, merchandise, events, and memberships.
People Leadership
* Recruit, train, and manage a diverse team: chefs, sous chefs, bar staff, kitchen staff, floor staff, merch staff, and events/gaming personnel.
* Lead, motivate, and develop staff to achieve performance targets.
* Foster a culture of excellence, teamwork, and accountability.
Compliance & Safety
* Ensure full compliance with alcohol licensing laws, food hygiene, health & safety, and all relevant regulations.
* Maintain robust policies and training to keep staff and customers safe.
Marketing & Customer Engagement
* Collaborate with the marketing team to run campaigns, events, and promotions.
* Build strong community and customer relationships, responding to feedback and trends.
* Act as a visible ambassador for Federation of Sport in Hull.
Strategic Growth
* Identify and implement new revenue opportunities.
* Monitor competitor activity and market trends in hospitality, leisure, and sports tech.
* Contribute to the long-term growth and success of the business.
Person SpecificationExperience
* Proven track record as a General Manager or senior operator in hospitality, leisure, or multi-outlet venues.
* Experience running a large bar, full kitchen operation, and food & beverage teams.
* Strong P&L management for venues with £2m+ turnover.
* Background in sports, gaming, events, or entertainment venues is highly desirable.
Skills & Knowledge
* Strong leadership and people management.
* Excellent commercial acumen: revenue growth, cost control, profitability.
* In-depth knowledge of licensing laws, food safety, and health & safety.
* Marketing and events experience.
* IT literacy: EPOS, inventory management, scheduling, and reporting systems.

Salary & Package
* Base Salary: £45,000 – £65,000 (depending on experience)
* Bonus Scheme: Performance-related bonus of up to 20% based on turnover, profitability, and customer satisfaction KPIs
* OTE (On-Target Earnings): £70,000 – £90,000+
