Contract Structural Surveyor – Building Structures

We are currently supporting an engineering consultancy seeking an experienced Structural Surveyor on a contract basis to assist with a programme of structural inspections and condition assessments across existing buildings, primarily within the education sector.
This role is largely focused on site-based investigations and reporting, assessing the condition of structural elements and providing practical recommendations for remedial works.
Role Overview
The successful contractor will carry out a range of structural inspections across existing buildings, predominantly schools. The role will involve assessing structural elements, identifying defects or deterioration, and producing concise reports with recommendations for repair or replacement where required.
Key Responsibilities
• Structural assessment of existing roof structures
• Inspection of existing balustrades and safety barriers
• Undertaking general structural condition assessments
• Reviewing CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) roof structures to assess condition and potential replacement requirements
• Carrying out ad hoc reactive inspections where structural concerns have been raised
• Producing initial inspection reports outlining findings and structural risks
• Providing recommendations and details for proposed remedial works or strengthening measures
Project Types
The majority of work will involve existing school buildings, with occasional inspections across other building types where required.
Requirements
• Experience carrying out structural inspections and building condition surveys
• Background in structural engineering or structural surveying
• Strong understanding of existing building structures and structural defects
• Experience assessing timber, steel, masonry, or reinforced concrete structures
• Ability to produce clear inspection reports and remedial recommendations
• Comfortable carrying out site-based investigations and reactive inspections
