Job Overview
We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Patient Transport Scheduler to work as part of the Patient Transport Team. The role is responsible for providing a comprehensive patient transport service within the hospital environment.
Responsibilities
* Dealing with all transport matters (patient and non-patient) on behalf of the Trust
* Managing and coordinating all requests for patient transport from Trust departments and coordinating in-house resources and/or providers of transport services
* Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services (NEPTS) discharge/transfer ambulances
* Planning next day bookings and allocating to NEPTS ambulances
* Resolving customer disputes and resource conflicts quickly
* Deciding on the most cost-effective method of executing transport requests while maintaining service levels, patient comfort and safety
Main duties
* Responding to calls from Trust departments requesting transport for movement of patients and packages
* Co-ordinating activities with third-party transport providers
* Adjusting transport plans to balance patient care needs with available resources
* Assisting clinical staff when planning discharge to ensure patients’ needs are met and transport plans meet those needs
* Ensuring suitable transport is sourced to avoid patient breeches
* Making decisions on the most cost-effective way to execute transport requests based on cost and service options
* Using judgment to assess priority for each request
* Dealing with all Trust departments courteously and efficiently
* Co-ordinating transport providers, both in-house and external, in a professional and efficient manner
* Ensuring all transport movements are recorded and allocated correctly on the daily schedule
* Carrying out daily procedures to maintain the scheduling system (backup, reports, etc.)

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
* Instruct transport providers in a timely fashion to meet service requirements of patients/departments
* Attend statutory and mandatory training courses as required
* Alert the scheduling supervisor to any problems relating to service and performance
* Identify and communicate service improvements
* Keep paper records up to date
* Sitting in restricted positions in front of VDU for long periods
Mental effort
* High levels of concentration dealing with a wide range of transport requests
* Maintain a professional and courteous service when dealing with customers/patients/Trust staff
* Handle complex clinical information
* Change transport planning daily to meet discharge needs
Emotional effort
* Occasionally dealing with irate customers/patients/drivers
Working conditions
* VDU use for most of the working day
* Based at one logistics centre with possible work at other locations as required
* Flexibility to work non-standard hours
* Ability to work using own initiative without close supervision
