Grampian Specialist Rehabilitation Service
An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, experienced, innovative and enthusiastic Senior Nurse to become the Senior Charge Nurse within the Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Unit at Woodend Hospital working as an integral part of the rehabilitation pathway. The post holder will also have responsibility for their own department but also have responsibility for holding the hospital bleep at times to optimise safe staffing for the service.
This is a challenging post in which the successful candidate will take responsibility for facilitating and providing clinical leadership be accountable for ensuring the delivery of high quality nursing care and service improvement. Management experience and evidence of continuing professional development is essential. A sound knowledge and understanding of infection prevention and control is a key requirement of this post. Excellent communication skills are a vital part of this senior post as is a genuine interest in care of patients following a stroke.
Excellent leadership skills will be required in this post to lead the nursing team forward to ensure the safe and effective delivery of patient care. The successful applicant will have a lead role in further developing the established ethos of the wider multi-disciplinary team towards the goal of a fully integrated, seamless patient pathway that is driven by goal-led rehabilitation planning.
The successful candidate should have at least two years experience at Band 6 and be able to evidence leadership skills and their application to practice.
The Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Unit is currently operating at 18 but does include 2 further surge beds that are generally operational most of the time. The ward provides rehabilitation for patients following an orthopaedic injury or procedure with varying levels of dependency, many requiring complex discharge planning including guardianship and cognitive impairment.

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
