Your new role
As a Multi‑Skilled Shift Technician, you will support the Container Division Engineering team in a busy port environment, ensuring day‑to‑day maintenance activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with operational demands.Working on a 4 on / 4 off 12‑hour shift pattern, you will be responsible for delivering planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive corrective maintenance across Ship‑to‑Shore (STS) and Cantilever Rail Mounted Gantry Cranes (CRMGs), along with associated equipment across the port estate.The role is genuinely multi‑skilled, covering both electrical and mechanical maintenance tasks. You will work closely with Engineering Shift Managers and senior engineers, ensuring compliance with electrical safety rules, permit‑to‑work systems, and site safety standards. Work may involve operating at height, in confined spaces, and within challenging industrial environments.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will hold a minimum HNC (or equivalent) in Mechatronics, or combined Electrical and Mechanical Engineering qualifications. You will also bring:
Proven experience working with PLCs, motors and controls, and variable speed drives
Experience of electrical installation works, fault-finding, repairs, and infrastructure replacement
Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills in a fast‑paced operational environment
A good working knowledge of maintenance strategies such as RCM, PM, CBM, and TPM
An understanding of permit‑to‑work systems, safe systems of work, and accident reporting
The flexibility and willingness to multi‑skill across electrical and mechanical disciplines
The ability to work safely at heights, in confined spaces, and in dusty or dirty environmentsWhat you'll get in return
