Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and commercially focused Part‑Time Finance Manager to oversee the financial management and reporting functions of the business. Working alongside the bookkeeping function, this role will focus on financial oversight, compliance, reporting, forecasting, and supporting strategic decision‑making.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior management and external accountants to ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain strong financial controls, oversee VAT and tax processes, and provide meaningful financial insight including profitability analysis and cash‑flow forecasting.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
* Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports
* Provide financial information and analysis to the management team
* Monitor and report on business profitability and margins
* Prepare and maintain cash flow forecasts and financial projections
* Assist with budgeting and financial planning
* Analyse financial performance and identify trends or areas for improvement
* Support strategic decision‑making through accurate financial reporting and analysis
* Assist with month‑end and year‑end reporting processes
* Review and maintain strong financial controls and procedures
VAT, Compliance & Tax Support
* Prepare and submit VAT returns accurately and on time
* Maintain and review financial journals and supporting documentation
* Work alongside external accountants in the preparation of tax returns and statutory accounts
* Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company procedures
* Support audits and finance reviews where required
Finance Oversight
* Oversee the accuracy of bookkeeping and ledger processes
* Review reconciliations and financial records prepared by the bookkeeping function
* Support process improvements and efficiencies within the finance department
* Liaise with external accountants, payroll providers, and other financial partners where required
Skills & Experience
* Proven experience in a Finance Manager or senior finance role
* Strong understanding of financial reporting, management accounts, and forecasting
* Experience preparing VAT returns and supporting tax processes
* Experience working with external accountants and auditors
* Strong analytical and commercial awareness
* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
* Experience using accounting software such as Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage 50
* Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
* Ability to manage workload independently and prioritise effectively
* Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial information clearly to management
Preferred Qualifications
* AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent finance/accounting qualification
* Experience within an SME or owner‑managed business
* Experience producing management accounts and cash‑flow forecasting
Salary
Competitive hourly rate or pro‑ratta salary dependent on experience.
