Job Description

We are recruiting a fixed‑term Energy Advisor (up to 2 years) with experience regulating energy sectors, including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. The UK’s strategy to deliver Net Zero is driving a transformation in the energy sector, and we need an expert to help lead technical support, strategy development, and regulatory oversight.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance and training
* Develop sector strategy and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed
* Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players
* Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during incident situations
Experience / Skills Required
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of regulating the energy sector, including combustion, waste incineration, and refineries
* Knowledge of control measures for emissions to air where relevant
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia
* Work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and encourage diversity in the workplace
