The role
You will play a vital hands-on role working on a diverse range of projects within the defence sector. Your work will involve installing, aligning, and maintaining advanced mechanical systems that contribute directly to national security. You will interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications to ensure precision in fitting and assembly. The role requires conducting functional tests, troubleshooting mechanical issues, and operating workshop machinery and tools specific to mechanical fitting. Key Responsibilities
Install and align mechanical equipment with accuracy and care.
Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
Conduct functional tests and surveys to verify system performance.
Operate workshop machinery and tools relevant to mechanical fitting.
Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults effectively.
Skills
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and work instructions.
Experience operating workshop machinery used in mechanical fitting.
Competent in troubleshooting mechanical systems.
Strong attention to detail and precision in mechanical assembly.
Good communication skills for effective teamwork and reporting.
Ability to work safely and comply with health and safety regulations.
Commitment to continuous professional development and learning.
Workshop machinery and hand tools specific to mechanical fitting.
Use of engineering drawing, reading tools and possibly digital documentation systems.
A background in marine engineering would be a plus.
Certifications & Standards
Indentured Apprenticeship in a mechanical discipline (essential).
Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship in mechanical engineering or related discipline (essential).
Level 3 Mechanical Engineering qualification (essential).
Time-served indentured apprenticeship or equivalent in a mechanical discipline.
