Overview
The basic role of Laboratory Chemist is to conduct analysis on samples of waste. The Lab Chemist will also be responsible for completing ad-hoc tasks as required by management and inline with personal competency. BIP Environmental is an Environmental & Waste Management company based in Cheshire, operating a permitted Hazardous Waste Transfer Station. BIP supports a wide range of clients in the safe and environmentally responsible disposal of their hazardous waste.
Responsibilities
* Calibrate the laboratory equipment as per the calibration schedule.
* Conduct chemical analysis on pre-acceptance and internally generated samples as per Company Procedure IMS6.09. This includes, but is not limited to:
* Performing the laboratory start up protocols;
* Undertaking the analysis in accordance with written laboratory testing methods;
* Reporting results;
* Cleaning of equipment;
* Cleaning of surfaces including the floor;
* Segregating samples according to hazard and transferring to the sample store;
* Stocktake reagents and consumables;
* Analytical equipment and tests typically undertaken: XRF; Karl Fischer water analysis; pH; flashpoint; Bomb Calorimetry; compatibility testing. All tasks must be completed in accordance with BIP Energies Integrated Management System and be conducted in compliance with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
* Lab Chemist must be at minimum qualified to a HNC in Chemistry (or applicable scientific field).
* Desirable: previous experience of laboratory analysis.
* Awareness of COSHH and the hazards associated with working in a laboratory environment.
* Ability to multi-task and prioritise.
* Good attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
* Understanding of quality systems and their use.
