Job Description
An established construction consultancy is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their Winchester office. The firm delivers sustainable, future-focused projects across healthcare, education, commercial, residential, heritage, and public and private sector schemes. Projects typically range from £5 million to £50 million, providing the chance to work on both substantial new developments and technically challenging refurbishments.
The role
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor will take ownership of projects from inception to completion, managing all commercial and contractual aspects and providing expert advice to clients. Key responsibilities include:
* Leading budgeting, cost control, value engineering, and maximising project profitability
* Managing contracts, including NEC, JCT, and other forms, to ensure commercial success
* Identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks to keep timelines and budgets on track
* Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, contractors, and internal teams
* Mentoring team members and supporting professional growth
* Working across a diverse portfolio spanning healthcare, education, commercial, residential, heritage, and public and private sector projects
About you
The ideal candidate will have strong consultancy experience and a proven track record delivering client-focused solutions. Key requirements include:
* Minimum of three years PQS experience in consultancy construction project management
* MRICS qualification or equivalent, or a clear commitment to achieving chartered status
* Solid knowledge of construction methodologies, design coordination, procurement, and contract administration
* Experience managing NEC, JCT, and other contract forms
* Proficiency in budgeting, cost control, value engineering, and maximising project profitability
* Ability to identify and mitigate project risks and manage complex project timelines
* Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and cost management software such as CADMeasure or iTWO CostX
* Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively
