Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer Sector: Fresh Produce / Food ManufacturingLocation: Birmingham Employment Type: Permanent Salary: Competitive (DOE) Hours: Monday to Friday | Rotating Shift 6am - 2pm / 2pm - 10pm (37.5 hours per week) ISQ Recruitment is recruiting for a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established fresh produce manufacturing business in Birmingham. This is a hands-on maintenance role within a busy, highly automated production environment. You will be working as part of an established engineering team, supporting production across 33 lines and helping to keep equipment, plant and site services running effectively. About the Company The business is a family-owned fresh produce manufacturer with over 60 years of industry experience. They supply major supermarkets and foodservice providers across the UK and operate from a highly automated manufacturing site. The company continues to invest in automation, engineering capability and site infrastructure, with a strong focus on long-term employee development and internal progression. Role Snapshot Monday to Friday rotating shift pattern 6am to 2pm / 2pm to 10pm Established engineering team Busy fresh produce manufacturing site Highly automated production environment with 33 production lines Ongoing investment in automation and site equipment Long-term opportunity with training and progression available The Role As Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer, you will support day-to-day engineering activity across the site, covering reactive breakdowns, planned maintenance, fault finding and continuous improvement work. You will be involved in maintaining automated production and packaging machinery, as well as supporting wider site services where required. Key responsibilities will include: Carrying out reactive breakdown repairs to reduce downtime Completing planned preventative maintenance schedules in line with site TPM systems Diagnosing and repairing faults across electrical and mechanical systems Maintaining and repairing automated production and packaging equipment Working with PLCs, inverter drives, HMIs and electrical control circuits Maintaining accurate maintenance records and documentation Supporting building services including refrigeration, air handling and fire safety systems Assisting with continuous improvement and lean manufacturing activity Ensuring all work is carried out in line with health & safety and environmental standards Skills & Experience The successful candidate will ideally have: Experience working as a Maintenance Engineer in a fast-paced manufacturing environment Food manufacturing, fresh produce or similar FMCG experience would be advantageous Strong electrical fault-finding skills on automated production equipment Experience working with PLCs, inverter drives, HMIs and control systems Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics Good mechanical maintenance skills, including motors, gearboxes and general mechanical repairs Experience working with PPM schedules and maintenance management systems A practical, hands-on approach to engineering support within a production environment Qualifications Relevant engineering qualification, apprenticeship or equivalent hands-on experience HNC level qualification or equivalent would be advantageous 18th Edition preferred, although candidates with 17th Edition and relevant experience may still be considered Desirable: MEWP, FLT, IOSH/NEBOSH or Food Safety certifications Benefits Pension scheme - 3% employer / 5% employee contribution 20 days holiday plus Bank Holidays Onsite parking Stable, long-term opportunity within a growing manufacturing business Ongoing training and development within the engineering team Opportunity to work within a well-invested, automated production environment Please note: this client does not offer visa sponsorship.
