A vacancy has arisen for a Squadron Leader (Any Profession) to serve as Media Operations Officer at RAF High Wycombe on Full Time Reserve Service (Limited Commitment) Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS), with an initial proposed start date of 02 February 2026 (or earlier/later, subject to candidate status). Working directly to SO1 Media Operations, SO2 Media Operations is responsible for the overall approach to Royal Air Force communications and engagement efforts, delivering against the Royal Air Force Communications Strategy to raise awareness, understanding and to shape public opinion in favour of the Royal Air Force. SO2 Media Ops is a multi-faceted post encompassing a range of roles that are at the forefront of delivering operational media support for the Air M&C team. Specific responsibilities include: Media Officer. The role of the Media Officer is to handle and manage news media that is usually of a sensitive nature. Key tasks include: Maintain awareness of military and current affairs, the news agenda (both online and offline) that may impact on the RAF’s reputation, and of on-going sensitive issues specific to the RAF. Handle news and media requests of sensitive personnel and operational issues, policy and political issues in a discreet, timely and appropriate manner. Obtain SME and Air Pol Secretariat advice where appropriate and required when handling sensitive issues. Liaise with DDC Strategy Team to ensure coherent messaging and maintain adherence to the broader Defence Communications Strategy. Support the production of world-wide regional RAF Communications Campaigns. Liaise with SMEs to ensure the timely production of robust Operation and Exercise Communications Plans. Liaise with DDC and Air Pol Secretariat to ensure production of relevant and timely lines to take/Defensive News briefs for emerging news or policy issues. Prepare and send press releases to DDC for release to news organisations as required. Support the production of content that is published on RAF digital channels. Support Communication Campaigns through media management. Provide news and media advice to DDC, outstations, senior officers, station MCOs and units. Carry out media minding duties as required. Tactical Evaluation Analyst. The role of the Tactical Evaluation Analyst is to evaluate communications activities that have been produced, managed and run by the post holder. This requires the use of readily available metrics and data sources to form an evaluation. Key tasks include: Access and collect data on communication and campaign activities. Analyse data accessed / collected and provide immediate evaluation of communication and campaign activities while they are in progress to optimise future output. Alert Air M&C line manager on communication activities that may be generating an un-intended effect. Collate data for end of campaign evaluation following a consistent format, and enable wider use by Strategy, Campaign and Planning Leads. Line Manager. As a Line Manager, personnel are to be managed according to applicable rules and regulations. The key tasks for the Line Manager are: Carry out day-to-day personnel management within Media Ops and VisComm Ops teams, ensuring reporting staff are set clear priorities and are performing within set parameters. Review and assess performance of reporting staff based on agreed performance objectives (set annually) and Terms of Reference for the post. Be responsible for staff development following Defence development review process and work with Professional Development Lead (if that is a different post holder). Handle personnel issues by following Defence personnel procedures. Professional Development Lead. The role of a Professional Development Lead is to plan and coordinate professional development activities for his / her team within Air M&C. Key tasks include: Coordinate with DDC, Government Communication Service or third parties on the provisioning of professional development to personnel. If required, produce business case to secure budget for fee-paying training.
