Role
The Estimator will work with the Senior Estimator across multiple Transport for Wales (TfW) directorate teams (Transport Planning and Development, Commercial and Infrastructure) to contribute to the population of the TfW estimating database.
Role Responsibilities
* Support the development and maintenance of a cost database by compiling data from estimates, tenders, and actual project costs to contribute to a comprehensive source of cost information for future use.
* Assist in the ongoing management of the TfW cost database, by including the addition of new data and periodic reviews to ensure accuracy and relevance.
* Record cost data following the completion of contract works by using standardised templates (e.g. Rail Method of Measurement (RMM), Microsoft Excel, Causeway estimating software) to ensure the database is consistent and accurate.
* Collaborate with Programme and Project teams, by initiating correspondence and attending meetings during the project lifecycle to ensure cost data is collected and presented in the appropriate format.
* Prepare project and programme estimates (on an ad hoc basis as dictated by team workload), by following standard procedures, to ensure they are complete and accurate, and escalating any issues or uncertainties to senior colleagues.
Who We’re Looking For
* Qualified or working towards a degree in a relevant field, such as Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or equivalent experience.
* Demonstrable experience in estimating for infrastructure projects, ideally within the transport, rail, or construction sectors.
* Familiarity with cost data collection and analysis methods.
* Working knowledge of Rail Method of Measurement (RMM) documents.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software (e.g. Causeway).
* Good understanding of commercial principles and cost management practices.
