Public Prosecutor
Grade: Deputy Principal
Salary: £47,304 per annum
Working Pattern: Monday - Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm (37 hours per week - flexi available) Locations: Foyle, Newry and Belfast & Eastern
Duration: Temporary ongoing
About the Role
The Public Prosecution Service for Northern Ireland is seeking to appoint qualified legal professionals to temporary Public Prosecutor roles across multiple regional offices.
This is a key position within the criminal justice system, offering the opportunity to manage a varied caseload and undertake advocacy in courts across Northern Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will:
1. Consider files submitted by police and government departments and decide, or advise, on prosecution in cases before the Magistrates' and Crown Courts
2. Prepare prosecution papers and direct appropriate charges and evidence in each case
3. Conduct prosecutions in the Magistrates' Courts and, on occasion, the County Court across Northern Ireland
4. Provide pre-prosecutorial advice and liaise with criminal justice stakeholders, including victims and witnesses
5. Prepare committal papers in indictable cases where required
Essential Criteria
Applicants must, at the time of appointment:
6. Be a qualified Barrister or Solicitor entitled to practise at the Bar of Northern Ireland or as a Solicitor of the Court of Judicature of Northern Ireland

7. Hybrid and flexi working may be available in some locations
8. Roles may involve travel and prosecution work across Northern Ireland
9. CTC security clearance will be required therefore, you must have resided in Northern Ireland/UK for a minimum of 3 years in order to complete this
