Main Duties & Responsibilities General Duties The postholder will: Primarily work under the supervision of the Lead Principal Investigator (GP) to agree appropriate studies and play a key role in the day-to-day running of clinical trials. Central to the role is the recruitment, education and monitoring of patients entering a clinical trial, monitoring, tracking and sharing this information with the practice team. Working closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team, to support patients who choose to participate in clinical trials by providing advice and information and acting as the patients keyworker. Be responsible for delivering high quality, patient centred, compassionate care with a focus on promoting health and independence Be an accountable professional Work as part of a designated clinical and care team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual Carry out specific clinical and care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency To coordinate arrangements required for patients undergoing specialist investigations as part of the research protocol.
To assess the patient prior to trial treatment, monitor the patient receiving trial treatment and follow the patient up on completion of trial treatment as required by protocol. To collect and accurately record data in accordance with requirements of the trial protocol. To participate in the design and preparation of research protocols, patient information sheets and other documentation associated with clinical trials, ensuring that these are reviewed and updated as required. Maintain a professional portfolio, identifying role and skill developments in line with the NMC Code of professional practice.

Have proficient attitudes and behaviours compatible with NHS Values Identify, manage, and support patients at risk of developing long-term conditions, preventing adverse effects on the patients health Provide routine nursing care to patients as required in accordance with clinical based evidence, NICE and the NSF Secondary Duties Assist GPs with minor surgery when required Chaperone patients where necessary Support the team in dealing with clinical emergencies Liaise with external services / agencies to ensure the patient is supported appropriately (vulnerable patients etc.) Monitor and ensure the safe storage, rotation, and disposal of medicines Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care Support and participate in shared learning within the practice Continually review clinical practices, responding to national policies and initiatives where appropriate Participate in the review of significant and near-miss events applying a structured approach i.e. root cause analysis (RCA) Knowledge, training and experience Work within clearly defined accountability frameworks and boundaries of limitation to provide the best possible care in partnership with colleagues, patients and their carers Develop and improve personal practical and theoretical knowledge, competence and skills and maintain a portfolio of evidence Contribute towards developing a culture of learning and innovation, developing high quality learning environments Communicate effectively across a wide range of individuals, the public, and health and social care professionals.

Carry out specific delegated clinical and care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency, under the direction and supervision of Community Link Nurses or other registered care professionals dependent on setting Clinical responsibilities The following list is indicative as tasks and responsibilities will vary depending on the care setting the Practice Nurse is working in. The Research Nurse/AHP will: Provide and monitor care Develop understanding of all elements of the nursing process and be able to assist the on-going assessment, planning, management and evaluation of care Perform and record clinical observations including blood pressure, temperature, respirations, pulse and NEWS Ensure the privacy, dignity and safety of individuals is maintained at all times Recognise issues relating to safeguarding adults and report any problems or raise concerns to the appropriate registered care professionals Assist in the assessment of and contribute to the management of risk across several areas within the environment where care is being administered Assist in the implementation of appropriate action to meet the specific physical, emotional and psychological, social, cultural and spiritual needs of individuals and carers Have a sound understanding of caring for individuals with particular conditions for example dementia, mental illness, learning disabilities Develop skills in relation to coaching/teaching individuals/carers/other staff Assist with the implementation and monitoring of clinical standards and outcomes Engage in reflective practice including management of self and reflection on own reactions, asking questions and reflecting on answers given Demonstrate good understanding of the Mental Health Act / Deprivation of Liberty Standards (DoLs) and applies principles to everyday practice seeking advice or guidance from the Community Link Nurse or registered care professional as required Work in an effective and organised manner demonstrating excellent time management and organisational skills to effectively deliver person-centred care for an allocated group of individuals Deliver effective care following treatment plans This list of duties is not intended to be exhaustive but indicates the main areas of work and may be subject to change after consultation with the post holder to meet the changing needs of the service - Please refer to the attached Job Description for further information on the role.
