Shop Assistant Manager For more than 100 years, our client has stood at the heart of animal welfare in the North of England. Beginning in 1909 with Francis Cox's campaign to protect pit ponies working in Britain's coal mines, in 1982, our client found its long-term home at Oak Tree Farm in Wetheral Shields, where they continue their legacy through compassionate rehoming, equine care and community support. They are looking for a motivated and community-minded Assistant Manager to support the daily running of their busy charity shop in Hexham. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced retail environment, enjoys working both in a team and individually, and is passionate about making a positive difference through sustainable, ethical retail. As Assistant Manager, you will work closely with the Shop Managers to ensure the shop operates smoothly, delivers excellent customer service and maximises income to support their cause. You will lead a diverse team of volunteers, maintain merchandising standards and create a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere for donors, customers and the local community. Key Responsibilities: - Support the day-to-day running of the shop, including opening, closing, cash handling, and maintaining a safe working environment. - Assist in recruiting, training and motivating volunteers, ensuring they feel valued and confident in their roles. - Provide warm, helpful service to all visitors, promoting a positive shopping experience. - Oversee sorting, pricing, and merchandising of donated goods to maximise sales and maintain shop standards. - Support sales targets, Gift Aid processes, and promotional activities to increase revenue. - Build positive relationships with donors, local groups, and supporters to strengthen the shop's role in the community. About You: - Retail experience with a passion for charity-led work. - Confident working with volunteers and supporting a team. - Strong organisational skills and the ability to multitask. - A positive, proactive attitude with a commitment to excellent customer service. - Flexible and willing to support holiday cover when needed. This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours over 5 days, including weekends. Hourly pay: £12.71
