Health Care & Education Assistant

34 hours per week, Term Time Only

This post is based at The Oaks Secondary School, a generic special school for pupils with moderate, severe, or profound and multiple learning difficulties or Autism Spectrum Conditions. The school has received an outstanding Ofsted grading in its last four inspections.
The Oaks Secondary School is federated with Evergreen Primary School at Bishop Auckland and Croft Community School at Annfield Plain. There may be a requirement to work at these schools.
The Board of Governors of The North & South West Durham Learning Federation wishes to appoint a Health Care & Education Assistant, initially at The Oaks Secondary School, with potential duties at Evergreen Primary School or Croft Community School.
Applications are invited from internal suitably qualified persons holding an NVQ Level 2 in childcare or equivalent.
Main duties include carrying out hygiene and care routines for pupils with special needs, including positioning pupils with physical disabilities and assisting with feeding and personal care routines.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, hardworking, have a caring manner, and be able to work well as part of a team.

Pay and Leave Entitlements
Standard term-time pay is calculated based on:
1. 38 weeks of 'teaching' weeks
2. 1.6 weeks (8 days) public holidays
3. Individual leave entitlement: 5.4 weeks (27 days) or 6.4 weeks (32 days)
Leave entitlement depends on continuous service length:
* Less than 5 years: 27 days annual leave
* More than 5 years: 32 days annual leave
