The Surgical Directorate at Wrexham Maelor Hospital offers a secondment opportunity for a forward‑thinking, innovative senior nurse to join the acute site Head of Nursing, Acute Matron and Directorate Operational Management Teams. We seek an individual committed to high standards of patient care, focused on patient quality & safety, capable of leading the aligned team, and with experience in Acute Medicine or Surgery.
Interviews are scheduled for the week commencing 1 June 2026.
Main Duties
The Deputy Head of Nursing will work within the aligned Surgical Directorate and be accountable to the Head of Nursing and Site Director of Nursing. This role supports the agreed Nursing responsibility and accountability structure of the Directorate.
Responsibilities
* Lead the surgical nursing team and manage daily clinical operations
* Coordinate with the Head of Nursing and Site Director of Nursing on strategy and performance
* Ensure quality and safety standards are met and improved
* Provide clinical leadership, mentorship and development of staff
* Represent the Directorate in multidisciplinary meetings and committees
Qualifications & Experience
* Significant experience as a senior nurse leader at Band 8a or above
* Excellent communicator and leader with a passion for surgical nursing
* Demonstrated portfolio of high‑profile clinical leadership
* Regular management experience of a clinical area and senior nursing experience
* Ability to speak Welsh is desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome
