Role Overview
We are seeking a Maintenance Operative Manager to play a pivotal role in driving Ground Up's operational success across multiple sites. In this role, you will oversee field operatives, vehicles, materials, and equipment, ensuring that every project is delivered efficiently, safely, and to the highest quality standards.
As a key link between management, our field teams, and clients, you will lead by example—providing on-site support when needed, whether for site surveys, problem solving, or offering your technical expertise to ensure seamless project delivery and client satisfaction. This is a hands-on leadership role, perfect for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and takes pride in operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
People Management
* Oversee day-to-day activities of the field staff and maintenance operatives. Supervising, supporting, and motivating the team, ensuring performance standards are met.
* Provide feedback, guidance, and training to operatives.
* Promote a positive and professional working culture across the field team.
Project Management
* Allocate and manage jobs, ensuring clear communication of requirements.
* Conduct site visits to support operatives and, where required, work hands-on to assist in project delivery.
* Review, sign off, and report on completed works.
* Monitor project timelines and ensure delivery to client expectations.
* Supervise projects from mobilisation to completion, ensuring works are carried out efficiently, within budget, and to high quality.
* Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers where required, ensuring clear reporting and accountability.
* Implement quality checks and compliance audits on operatives' work.
* Support in the preparation of client updates, reports, and compliance documentation.
Resource & Asset Management
* Manage the ordering, stock control, and distribution of materials and equipment.
* Oversee management of the company unit, including storage, organisation, and asset upkeep.
* Ensure vans and fleet are maintained, serviced, and compliant with legal requirements (MOT, servicing, insurance, etc.).
* Oversee uniform provision, PPE, and compliance with H&S standards.
* Maintain accurate records of all works, materials, and fleet management.
* Report operational issues, risks, and updates to the senior leadership team.
Key Skills & Experience
Required:
* Full UK driving licence (essential)
* City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in plumbing or electrical trades.
* Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) qualification or equivalent.
* CSCS Card (Red/Black/Gold Card: Experienced Technical, Supervisor or Manager) or equivalent.
* Proven track record in supervising and managing teams of operatives.
* Practical, hands-on skills with ability to step into site works if required.
* Excellent communication, organisational and resource management skills.
* Ability to manage budgets, stock control, and procurement processes.
* Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and compliance.
* Flexible and adaptable, with ability to prioritise and manage multiple responsibilities.
* NVQ Level 2/3 in a Core Trade (e.g. Carpentry, Plumbing, Tiling, etc.) – desirable.
