This is a rare opportunity to lead the Moving and Handling Department at an exciting time. Supported by an excellent team of Moving and Handling Practitioners and the Head of Occupational Health & Safety you will help progress the service and lead the changes in service delivery and structure that are currently taking place. Ensuring continual improvement in service provision/delivery is a key feature of this role as well as helping to promote patient safety and a safe work environment for staff.
Following a review of the structure the Department has merged three teams into two teams. As the lead manager of the service you will be responsible for providing expert strategic and operational leadership in all aspects of service delivery. This includes safe and efficient moving and handling of patients, clients and inanimate loads. The role also involves promoting good musculoskeletal (MSK) health in staff and evidence based support for staff returning to work following periods of sickness absence related to MSK issues.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and guidelines, as well as ensuring training provision is in accordance with the Scottish Manual Handling Passport Scheme. The successful candidate is expected to represent the department in local, regional and national forums related to moving and handling practice.
The departments’ main base is Stobhill Hospital. Service is also delivered out of the Teaching & Learning Service at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Gartnavel General Hospital.
The successful candidate should:
* Be a Chartered Physiotherapist or other AHP / Registered Nurse to Honours Degree Level
* Evidence of successful completion of a recognised moving and handling course
* A minimum of 5 years moving and handling teaching experience in relation to patient and inanimate load handling
* Demonstrate knowledge / experience of undertaking moving and handling risk assessments (e.g. relevant training courses)
* Working knowledge of IT including word processing, working with spreadsheets, databases and presentation software.
* Experience of managing staff
* Recognised teaching/training certificate
